  Motorized society, Philippines

You can live without own car in Japan because you are in very convenience environment that you can take
train or bus anywhere, but it's not easy if you try to live here in the Philippines without own car especially
you are a foreigner.

Philippines' public transportations are train, bus, taxi, FX (shared-taxi), jeepney (shared-van), tricycle
(shared-motorcycle), but trains' lines go only limited area in Metro Manila and only people living nearby the
train station can utilize them.
And busses are also not comfortable to ride like the one in Japan and the route is also limited.

Cheapest transportation is Jeepney.
Very colorful!

Fun to find
a beautifully designed Jeepney.

Some of taxi drivers charge you special rate for foreigners upon arrival of your destination or doesn't use the meter if he noticed your are a foreigner, so you should ask your driver to use the meter if he was not using it or if he really doesn't use it, you should immediatelly get out of the taxi.

You don't have to pay for it if you immediatelly stopped it.
(The driver might charge you, but you don't have to pay for it.)

In that respect, FX is fixed rate and you can utilize it without such worries.

If you want to buy a second hand car, they usually buy and sell among individuals.

There are used car dealerships here but not all cars of such shops are good condition and of course various fees were tacked on these are why they like to buy and sell among individuals.

However, you are wondering how you can find a second hand car, aren't you?

You can get many infrmation regarding second hand cars from the managize named "Buy & Sell" issued twice a week, and you can also get information of houses, lots, and electrical appliances from it.

It's fun to read the magazine because there are lots of information of those who want to sell their cars.

Of course, you can place an advertisement in it for free when you want to sell your car.

What you have to do is just fill up the application form placing the back of the newspaper and send it by fax.

There is no picture of cars on the newspaper and cannot get detailed condition about the cars from it, but you can easily get it from "Car Finder" which has many color photographs.

By the way, "neg." stand for "negotiable" and you might get big discount depends on your negotiation skill.

You need to pay P600 for advertising fee, but you will be able to find a buyer faster because of the picture.

We got our car by swapping.

We can swap cars if we find someone who wants our car and we also want his car without paying cash or pay the balance if there is difference in the market price of the cars.

We used have Toyota Landcruiser but it was just P400,000 in market price because it was imported from Japan and converted, but we fortunately found someone who need a 4WD for his business even it was converted, and he had a luxury VolksWagen car, so we agreed to swap our cars without cash.

In suchway, you might have a chance to get luxury car without paing cash.
